Saag by any other name
A few weeks ago I was at Amber with a group of people for Dave's birthday. Having decided to order their palak paneer, we commenced wondering why it was called palak, not saag as usually. Someone cleverly asked the server, who explained that palak is spinach, and saag is another kind of greens. (I wouldn't have bothered since I love all forms of that dish!) That was on my mind today for some reason, because I still didn't know what kind of greens. Fortunately, I found an explanation: Saag is a general term, which can include fun stuff like fenugreek greens. The source site is quite useful for more Indian food definitions.

Heh. I'd kind of been wondering that myself. My Indian-food-in-a-box is called palak paneer.
